Thursday: Color Scheme

I got to thinking about what my weekly blog challenge was going to be for 2 Scrappy Chix Designs. I always have a lot to say, unfortunately for the most part, but haven't really been saying anything of value on my blog. Not that this has much value but I wanted to talk about the new color scheme of my master bedroom. I just ordered this bedding set from Overstock.com:I think it is gorgeous. I am going to accent it with Robin's Egg Blue. I love the look of this blue with chocolate brown. This color combination may be played out but I don't care, I love it. I have been wanting a new bedding set for awhile but finally took the plunge. Who could resist Overstock.com's prices. I bought a set of chocolate brown Swiss Dot sheets too. Keep in mind, my headboard/footboard are an ivory colored wicker. So I think it will look fabulous. We are in the beginning stages of getting to work on our fixer-upper. We have lived here almost two years and have done virtually nothing to fix up the house. We really need to buckle down and do something. Except for the kitchen, the rest of the house just needs cosmetic work. A few drywall repairs and paint. I would like to replace both bathroom's vanities. The kitchen needs to be gutted and started from scratch. So for now, I am going to start with new bedding and an easy room like painting the dining room. So what is the color scheme in one of your rooms?

Thursday Challenge: My Life List

In one of the blogs that I read, the author made a mini-album of her life list. My Life List is a list of the big (and not so big) things you want to accomplish in your lifetime. Here is My Life List:

* Lose a serious amount of weight, seriously.
* Live a healthier lifestyle.
* Be a mom.
* Travel internationally.
* Be financially sound.
* Keep a clean and organized house.

What is your life list? Post your link at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs.

THE CRAZINESS HAS STARTED....

at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs. The one-year anniversary celebration at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs will run the entire month of September 2007. There are plenty of games, challenges, and fun for you to enjoy. Want to win a prize? Check out the message board and find plenty of opportunities to win and to win big!

New Challenge Blog

My friend Mary, flutteringby on 2 Scrappy Chix Designs, has another wonderful adventure that she has introduced us to... a new challenge blog. The name of the blog is Scrapping the Music. Think how much music plays a part of your life. How much music moves you. How music can change your mood. Well this new challenge blog introduces a new song each week. Your challenge is to take a part of that song and design a project around it. Does that mean use the title? The lyrics? The feeling? You tell us! How does the weekly song move you? Tell your story in your project.

Thursday Treat {Challenge}

I posted this blog challenge at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs... You take a sweet word (or a word that is a sweet treat) and use the letters to describe a family member. The person I am going to describe is my sister Nikki:

C - Cute as a button.
U - Utterly hilarious... just read her blog.
P - Pees her pants (see A)... and sometimes just in a convenience store parking lot. (The stories I could tell...)
C - Cat lover and a dog here and there!
A - Alcohol lover of the beer kind... okay the girl likes her beer and she likes to party.
K - Killer sense of fashion involving all things pink and skulls.
E - Enjoys life... for the most part. She has had a couple of rough years but is working through it!

Okay the challenge is kind of cornball but fun. So now it is your turn to take a sweet word to describe a relative of yours. Post your link here!

A True Friend Challenge 10

This is my DT project for challenge 10 at A True Friend blog. The theme was "cuddle". I wanted to go a little different here other than the same pictures of Sugar and Baby. So I thought of the cows. We have over 200 head of cattle on our property. No the cows aren't ours, they are on the property through a lease agreement. Needless to say I navigate through these cows on a daily basis, twice a day, going back and forth to work. I worry about these cows like they were my own. If one doesn't look right, I am making some phone calls to report it. But all I wish for these cows is that I could put my hand outside the car window and pet one. They aren't cuddly little bunnies. These are ginormous cows that would rather stampede you than look at you. All they can do is stare at me with those big ol' eyes and gallop off like I am going to hurt them. Little do they know, that all I want to do is pet them and cuddle!

Insight Into Me

These are my responses to a blog challenge I posted at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs:

1. What three famous people (dead or living) would you like to have dinner with:
A) Abraham Lincoln - I just think that this man was ahead of his time and would like to hear his thoughts on the world today.
B) Wanda Sikes - She is a loud, obnoxious woman that is highly entertaining. I think she would be a laugh riot at a dinner party.
C) Susan B. Anthony - I would love to have a chance to talk with a women from the early suffrage movement. The risks they took in order for women to earn the right to vote is amazing to me. All were so brave and really an inspiration to all mankind.

2. What celebrity would play you in a made for TV movie about your life? Gosh this is a hard one for me. Maybe Roseanne Barr. A loud, opinionated chubby lady that really doesn't care what anyone else thinks of her! Maybe!

3. Is there anything you would go back and change in your life? The only thing I would really go back and change is finishing my college degree at the time I was going to college right out of high school. That is my only one regret in life.

4. If you had more than enough money and could donate large sums to any worthy cause, what would that cause be? I would definately donate funds to worthy animal and children's organizations. Obviously animals and near and dear to me but kids suffering is also heartwrenching. There should be more than enough money in the world to solve problems regarding animals and children that suffer!

5. What is your dream career? My dream career, or one that I think about all the time, is running a bed and breakfast. I really have no idea why because I don't like to get up early and I don't like people in general. So this doesn't seem to be a smart fit. But when I think of running away and joining the circus, my circus is a bed and breakfast.

You have been tagged to answer these five questions. Please post a link in the comments section so I can read your responses!

California

Last month E and I went to California for vacation. We earned the trip through work and were able to visit Napa Valley and San Francisco. I had never been to either locale and loved them both. Napa was perfect. I couldn't have asked for more perfect weather. It was so wonderful to be able to sit outside and enjoy it without extreme heat and extreme bugs. We were able to enjoy the beauty of eating outside. Simply marvelous. I think this picture is my absolute favorite from the whole trip... a bunch of grapes. I believe crush is going to be around the end of September this year for most of Napa. I can't imagine what Napa Valley looks like in the middle of crush... a site to see I am sure. Here is another of my favorite shots from vacation, San Francisco from the crookedest street. I just like the layout of the photo.
Needless to say our vacation was much too short. We didn't do too much except just to relax and take it easy. I must say that the 5.5 days we were in California went by like it was 2. We got there and before we knew it we were back in San Francisco on the way to the airport to come home to some ridiculous Texas heat.

But I can always dream of that beautiful California weather and wait for my return trip.... some day!

Greatness at 2SCD

This weekend at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs you will find our monthly online crop in action. The crop starts Friday, August 10, 2007, at 5:00 p.m. EST and goes for four hours with four great projects. The crop continues on Saturday, August 11, 2007, at Noon EST for another four hours with four fantastic projects. Keep in mind there are also prizes for participation in the crop.

Now if that wasn't enough, we also have a wonderful chat scheduled with a celebrity chat. The celebrity will be chatting it up with the chix on Friday, August 10, 2007, at 9:00 p.m. EST. The celebrity is none other than the fabulous Lisa Pace. Here is a little information on Lisa:

Lisa Pace lives in Frisco, Texas with her husband of 16 years and two daughters. She began scrapbooking in February of 2005 and was the lead designer for a local scrapbook store in Rockwall, Texas from June of 2005 until June of 2006. Lisa inspires others as a designer for Maya Road and Danelle Johnson’s design team. In May 2007, Lisa was picked as one of the 5 master scrapbookers in Martha Stewart's scrapbooking contest. Lisa's work has been published or is about to be published in Scrapbook Trends, Paper Trends, Scrapbooks etc., Scrapbooking & Beyond, Memory Makers Books, Cantata Books, CorrespondenceART and Paper Creations as well as several idea books.

Lisa loves pattern paper and usually scraps in a 12 x 12 format. She cannot scrap without her trusty old ruler and feels she does not have any one set style. Lisa has tried many different styles and feels her versatility shows in her artwork. She also loves creating themed mini albums as well as unique one of a kind paper dolls.

I hope to see plenty of new faces at the crop and chat. This is your invitation to join in on the fun!

PRIZE PATROL: Be the first person to post this secret code word during the crop when I ask and you will win a prize. (Secret code word is: Pickle) Keep in mind I don't have too many readers so if you are reading this, you have an excellent chance for the prize good luck!

My Daily Inspiration

I posted a challenge for all the chix at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs to post an entry listing three favorite blogs. Here are three of my favorite blogs that I stalk on a daily basis and can't wait to see what these strangers have been up to:

Curly Girl - Kerry McKibbins has a wicked sense of humor. She isn't afraid to make fun of herself or others (without being malicious) as a matter of fact. She is a great story teller and in fact makes me smile quite often.

Big Girl Goddess - This is my sister Nikki's blog. Again, just a great story teller with some stories to tell. Lately she has been stressed out with work and family (and sometimes both at the same time since we work in our family owned and operated business). Nikki is a funky spunky chick with tattoos and pink eyeglasses. Okay her hair was pink too for her Hawaii trip but sadly that has all washed out!

Raggedy Old Annies - Nicole Ellison makes the bestest Raggedies (and her patterns are pretty nifty too!) Her work room is what I would love my (s)crap room to be! She just tells tales of her regular life mixed in with info about her Raggedies.

So there you have it... three great blogs that I await anxiously on a daily basis (okay several times a day if I am honest with myself) for a new post. A glimpse into a strangers life (well not my sister's... but she even tells a story once in awhile that shocks me a little!) A clue that I am not much different than these three ladies, we all have good times and bad but we make the best of it and keep living!

Are you talking to me?

I am just so over the moon that I got an "honorable mention" on something I entered for a challenge... check this out! I am the Kim they are talking about under "These layouts also caught our eye"! Can you believe it? Just a little something to make my day!

I was surprised by my stepfather this week with this piece of goodness...

http://nikonimaging.com/global/products/digitalcamera/slr/d40x/index.htm

Actually both my sister and I were surprised by this generous gift. We are going on vacation next week, Nikki to Hawaii and me to California. I have been wanting a SLR for awhile but knew I couldn't afford it. Keep in mind I can barely operate my point and shoot digitals but I think I will someone manage with this goodness!!!

It is no laughing matter...a Sex in the City movie is in the works, again! According to this article at People.com reports that the movie is scheduled to start shooting mid-September. I am so excited. I truly loved this show while it was on and usually catch the re-runs on a daily basis somewhere.

July Online Crop/Celebrity Chat at 2SCD

The July 2007 Online Crop at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs is upon us. The crop starts Friday, July 13, 2007, at 5:00 p.m. EST and runs for four hours. The crop continues on Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Noon EST and runs for four hours. Tammy Kay is our celebrity guest for a chat on Saturday, July 13, 2007, at 9:00 p.m. EST. Tammy will be chatting with the chix for an hour. The entire Design Team will be drawing names for RAKS from the participation in the crop. Plus 2SCD will award a grand prize for participation in the crop.

Tammy Kay is a wonderful designer and will be a joy to chat with. Here is Tammy's bio:

My name is Tammy Kay. I live in a very small town in South Carolina . Andrew, my hubby, and I have been married for seven years. My twin boys, Chanston and McKinley, are six. Karigan is two and she is also the boss of everyone! I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful family and a husband who supports me in this hobby turned obsession of mine. I was first introduced to scrapbooking during my senior year of high school. My final English exam was to complete a scrapbook that I worked on for the entire year. It wasn’t until my boys turned two that I was introduced to it again. I dabbled in it every so often. After Karigan, my daughter, was born I began to take more of an interest in it. Creating makes me happy. It makes me feel good. I am currently a member of Marah Johnson’s Design Team as well as a Designer for Creative Imaginations. I feel so honored to be working alongside with so many talented women. Besides Scrapbooking I love watching a good movie, reading a new magazine, and I love my coffee! When I scrapbook coffee is a necessity! You can learn a little more about me if you visit my blog, www.tammykay.typepad.com.

SIStv

Have you all discovered Scrap In Style TV? I have been a member for awhile now and it is fab. I finally had a chance to watch some of the webisodes today. They are pretty great... not some high dollar corporate film but more off the cuff little ditties that only true papercrafters would enjoy. What I think really impresses me the most about SIStv is the great gallery. I cannot say I have ever seen a collection of layouts and projects that are more unique and cutting edge than what is in that gallery. It is a true inspiration. It is also a place where I will be stealing ideas and looks left and right. Poster beware!!! I need to get some funk in my junk! Truly I do.

2SCD Celebrity Chat REMINDER

The first official celebrity chat at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs will be tomorrow:

Love Me Some Bloglines

I have just recently discovered Bloglines. And I love IT! I cannot believe how easy it is to see all my blogs that I stalk on a daily basis, well mutiple times a day. I can see at any moment what blogs have been updated. I am nearing 100 on my blog list and love to add more! Check it out if you haven't!

2SCD Celebrity Chat

I met Catherine last year at Creative Escape. Catherine is a talented scrapper. She is also a great person too! I am in a circle journal with Catherine and other chix from last year's Creative Escape. Catherine's CJ theme is "Pay It Forward", a motto that she lives by. A true inspiration.

Current Event Comment

I was really saddened today when I read on CNN that they found the body of Jessie Marie Davis. She is the pregnant woman that was almost to term that disappeared a couple weeks ago. I really find it disturbing when anyone goes missing but there really seems to be a lot of pregnant women that have disappeared in the last several years. My goodness, I really find it hard to believe that bringing a baby into this world would cause someone to murder a pregnant woman. I usually just post about mundate life events or my papercrafts but today I wanted to give a commentary on current events. Life is cruel and unfair, and it is a real shame that somewhat normal people go to extremes to what they think solves their problems "short term". The police haven't given a reason why they arrested Ms. Davis' cop boyfriend for her murder but I just have to question why anyone has to hurt another person whether it leads to murder or not. For instance, I don't understand kids... how kids can be soo soo cruel to another child. I don't know... I really don't have anything important to say. I guess I just wanted to document my feelings for Ms. Davis and express my sympathy for her family. I need to give my family some hugs and kisses and tell them I love them!

New Challenge Blog

I was cruising the forums at 2peas and came across this great new challenge blog...

A true friend
A priceless treasure

It is precious... a challenge blog for our pets. As a scrapper that doesn't have children, I tend to scrap my pets.... particularly Sugar (White Boxer) and Baby (Yorkie). These two knuckleheads are the only two of 14 dogs that stand still long enough to take great pictures... or that are extremely photogenic. I just thought this challenge blog was a really smart idea.

Changes are a brewin'.....

I can happily say I am still a part of the 2 Scrappy Chix Designs Design Team. A new crew of chix have been selected for the regular Design Team duties of creating new projects for the gallery, online crops, challenges, and online classes. The inaugural Design Team chix have been assigned new duties to make the site bigger and better. My official title is Design Team Events Coordinator. This task entails maintaining the calendar, coordinating the online crops, and organizing the celebrity chats. The chats I suggested and volunteered for.

You would not believe how gracious the celebrities are that I invited to chat with the chix at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs. I sent out six invitations hoping to get at least one affirmative response.... guest what? I got six yes responses. Three I have finalized the details and the other three are reviewing their schedules to get back with me. So far the following chix are scheduled for celebrity chats:

Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 9:00 p.m. EST - Tammy Kay
Friday, August 10, 2007 at 9:00 p.m. EST - Lisa Pace
Friday, September 14, 2007 at 9:00 p.m. EST - Amber Ulmer (also check out her challenge blog at One Little Word)

I so admire each of this chix's work. I hope you will join us during these chats. To chat, you must register at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs and the chat room is on the home page.

A Summer of Moments

For more information on this class, see the message board at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs. Over a three month period, you will finish a complete album full of summer memories. You can sign-up for the class with or without the kit. Class size is limited, so hurry to 2 Scrappy Chix Designs today to sign up!

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I will be having sweet sweet dreams about this man for a long time after seeing Ocean's Thirteen last night. An excellent movie for reals! You definately need to rush out to the theatre this morning, plunk down your pesos, and demand a ticket...... oh and maybe some hot buttered popcorn too! Really the movie was great. The hype was all that and a bag of chips. There were a couple moments in the movie that were predictable. But I don't care. They could have shown 2 hours of George Clooney standing there with his Cheshire cat grin and I would have been just as happy. Now Edward might not have been entertained them but he could always take the option of going out to the car and waiting for me!

Is it wrong to love skulls?

My fabulous finds at my local Dollar Tree! Now mind you, my hair is super short and I can't use any of these items except maybe the barrettes but I can rock the hell out of them on some papercraft projects!

2SCD DT Projects

Here are some Design Team projects I have made using the June 2007 kit from 2 Scrappy Chix Designs below:
Altered frame for the online crop. Added Urban Lily chipboard, Maple Lane Press frame, and MAMBI rhinestone "sweet" to the June 2007 kit to make this project.
This layout is really on a canvas. In addition to the patterned papers from the June 2007 kit, I also used pink tags, MAMBI glitter "K", butterfly and rhinestone/velvet flower from Prima, Urban Lily chipboard, and a clock face to complete this project.
Another crop project that was a sketch challenge with a twist. The sketch came from ScrapRoom Blueprints. I used silver Making Memories glitter alpha stickers instead of the black in the June 2007 kit. I also added a Basic Grey rub-on, Autumn Leaves journaling stamp with StazOn, and Sharpie for the journaling. In the bottom left corner, I also embroidered along on the the floral vines. The background cardstock is the sugar-coated cardstock from Doodlebug. It was not problem adding the rub-on to the textured paper.

June at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs

The June kit at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs rocks the house! Includes 7 pattern papers from the Doodlebug black & white collection, 2 Doodlebug sugar coated cardstocks(one black and one white), 1 yard of American Crafts black & white ribbon, 5 Making Memories sweets flowers, 4 Making Memories glitter brads, 8 Making Memories button brads, 4 Heidi Swapp large flowers, 1 package of Making Memories shimmer alpha stickers, 1 large chipboard flower, and 1 large chipboard butterfly for a mere $15.99.

I love the black and white with just a hint of color added. And the sugar coated cardstock makes your teeth hurt it is sooooo sa-weet! Really I love the glittered look of the sugar cardstock. Adds just the perfect hint of blingage!

So not only do we have a rockin' kit this month, we have a rockin' celebrity Guest Designer. The one. The only. Amber Ulmer. Let me hear a big round of applause for Amber. She is a kick@$$ designer that has a young and fresh feel! Amber has also started a fun and funky challenge blog called One Little Word.

I hope you come by 2 Scrappy Chix Designs to check out the fun we have. Oh, we are also having a new Design Team call. Definately need to check that out!

POTC3: At World's End

So E and I went to see my next husband Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of The Caribbean: At World's End. I would have to give this movie a A-. It was wonderful. There were a couple parts where Captain Jack wrestles with his conscience and hallucinates that weren't needed in my opinion. But overall the special effects were fantastic. I love all the characters. Highly recommended to all. However, I must warn, it is in your best interest to have seen the first two to get some of the "inside" jokes and comments.

Open letter to the couple that brought their infant child (probably about 18 months) and their toddler (probably 4 years): Why do you find it necessary to bring your infant child to a long and loud movie in excess of two hours. Do you feel the need to torture your child or torture the rest of the audience that has to witness a cranky baby? Please do us all a favor and wait for the movie to come out on video so you can rent it and watch it at home or get a babysitter! Thank you!

2SCD Projects

More projects made from the May 2007 kit at 2 Scrappy Chix Designs featuring Hambly and Autumn Leaves.A fun layout featuring two more of my 13 dogs. I used a sketch that was submitted for our online crop. I like the monotone look of this layout. I used foam for the bracket... cut out the bracket using a chipboard one as a template.
I love this card using Hambly patterned paper by cutting out a frame and attaching it to a cardstock mat and a card made from Bazzill Bling. Added two Hambly rub-ons and Making Memories letter stickers. Holla! if you love owls!
This is my absolute favorite layout. Course these pictures of Nikki make it! I used a sketch from 2SCD online May crop. Hambly patterned paper and transparency. Flowers from Bazzill and American Crafts. Thickers by American Crafts. Miscellaneous brads.A passport picture of Edward and his mother. I totally scraplifted this fantastic layout. I don't care, the layout I scraplifted was too great to pass up!

Work

I always talk about my job (well complain probably is more like it). My sister and I work for our parents' wine distribution company. I finally got our blog for the job up-and-running. Doesn't really say much except news revolving around the wines and winemakers of the products we carry in our portfolio. But if you are into wine, it is a nice place to research some new boutique wines. It is still in the beginning stages of a blog and I don't have all the links posted yet... but VISIT HERE if you are interested.

Funky Hambly Projects

Here are a couple of my 2SCD DT projects that I made with the May 2007 kit which features Hambly products...
I altered a cut-out felt placemat from Hobby Lobby on this project. I added binder clips, flowers, ribbon, and pearl head stick pins to products from the May 2007 kit.

Close-up of the altered placemat.
Another close-up of the altered placemat.

Robot card using a frame I cut from a Hambly transparency plus a Hambly Robot rub-on and Dymo label tape on Bazzill Bling cardstock.

Trippin'

Trippin' is what I do when I have a 50+ pound dog under my feet when I am trying to scrap. And of course I can't get mad at her when she looks at me. She is much too cute to get mad at. Sugar Sweet!

Progress

I have made quite a bit of progress on my {s}crap room. As you can see my work table is almost all clear. The floor is basically clear. This room needs just a little more cleaning to be complete.... well almost. After I organize the 20 or so boxes and bags in the hall closet that came out of this... then the reorganization of the {s}crap room will be complete. I had to get those boxes and bags out of this just to be able to move around in an attempt to organize. You cannot imagine how much better I feel at this stage. The completion of this room is reachable. I can almost feel it!

Accomplishments

I finally feel like I accomplished something tonight. First off, I cleaned off my work space in my scrap room. This is a MAJOR accomplishment. I have a few more things to organize in my room before I post a picture. After I cleared my work table, I actually sat down to work on the circle journals that I have had in my possession forever. I am in a circle journal with some great ladies from Creative Escape 2006. I finished circle journals from Sherron, Elizabeth, and Kim. They will happily go into the mail this week to the next participants. All I have left to do is two more circle journal layouts and I will be done with the exception of receiving my own circle journal back. You cannot understand how elated I am that this circle journal is almost complete.
